HONOR 8C REVIEW: LONG BATTERY LIFE MAKES IT A GOOD OPTION

China-based smartphone brand Honor, launched the Honor 8C, starting December 10 in 2018 with a starting price of about $200. In this price range, smartphones compete with Realme 2, Redmi 6 Pro, Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 and more among devices.

DESIGN & DISPLAY

Honor 8c has a glossy unibody design made entirely of plastic on the back. A smartphone looks premium when viewed from a distance, but it looks a little different when you hold it in your hand. We strongly recommend using a case. The box contains a soft TPU case. It has a dual-camera on the back, similar to the setup found on Honor 8X with an LED flash underneath. The circular fingerprint sensor is embedded in a slight recess and matches the color profile of your smartphone. At the bottom of the smartphone is a Micro-USB 2.0 port, with one speaker on the right. The 3.5 mm headphones are on the top, with a microphone next to them. The power and volume buttons are on the right side of the smartphone and the hybrid SIM tray is on the left side.

Honor 8C features a 6.26-inch notched IPS LCD display with HD + resolution of 1520 x 720 pixels. The display offers an 81.9% screen-to-body ratio and a 19: 9 aspect ratio. Smartphones have a notch, but users can choose to hide the space around the notch or “disable” the notch for a uniform display. This feature is useful when viewing content on YouTube, Netflix, or during games. The phone provides a decent viewing angle and the colors look bright and vibrant. The display adapts well under bright lighting. There is also a smart resolution option that automatically reduces the resolution and saves battery life when not needed

PERFORMANCE AND BATTERY

The smartphone runs on EMUI 8.2, which is based on the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system. Smartphones provide decent performance overall. Phones handle basic usage smoothly, but frequent use can be a pain. Very fast and smooth face recognition is also available. While playing graphics-intensive games like PubG and Asphalt, the phone has a hard time, but users can manage whether these games have reduced graphics rates.

As for the battery, the Honor 8C has a 4,000mAh battery that will keep the show going for almost a day. Even after frequent use in multimedia playback, online audio streaming, games, and camera use, the phone can last for 8 hours without requiring battery juice replenishment.

CAMERA

On the back of Honor 8C is a dual-camera setup that combines 13MP and 2MP sensors. There is also the beauty of AI that can allegedly recognize more than 500 scenarios in 22 categories. The camera is almost enough and does the job, but there is nothing to write at home. In bright lighting conditions, the photo is decent. Color reproduction isn’t very good in automatic mode, but it’s acceptable for phones priced in this category. There is also a professional mode that allows the user to manually control the ISO and shutter speed, allowing finer control of the output than any other camera mode. The front camera can do the job in much the same way, but there’s nothing to brag about.

VERDICT

Honor 8c cost about $200 and it is a decent option if the battery and basic everyday use are the main concerns. This phone provides a smooth experience for running apps such as Facebook, Whatsapp, Youtube, and internet browsing. The cell phone battery also lasts for a day without asking for battery juice replenishment.
